1920’s kitchen at St Hanshaugen

This remarkable apartment, with its generous ceiling heights, sits right next to St. Hanshaugen Park and enjoys beautiful views over the greenery. Herringbone parquet floors, original cornicing, ceiling roses, double doors set within exposed beams, and tall windows give the home a truly distinctive character. The kitchen needed to harmonize with the building’s classical architecture dating back to the 1890s, and the natural choice was a design inspired by the 1920s.

The kitchen follows a 1920s style and is painted in a soft, light yellow hue. The wall cabinets measure 1300 mm in height; two feature glass-fronted panels, while another discreetly conceals an integrated extractor fan.

Beneath the sink, a pull-out drawer provides practical waste sorting.

The kitchen is fitted with a tall cabinet housing the fridge and freezer, topped with an additional cabinet above — maximizing vertical storage and making full use of the room’s height.

Above the sink, open shelving is paired with a wall-mounted wine cabinet.

The space between the base cabinet nearest the window and the window itself creates a perfect gap, allowing the curtain to hang freely and frame the light beautifully.

Glass shelves are set within the window, enhancing the airy feel.
The tap, crafted in untreated brass, will develop a patina over time, adding depth and character.
Above the cooker, a wall cabinet conceals the integrated extractor fan.

In consideration of the ornate cornicing, the wall cabinets have been intentionally kept below ceiling height, allowing the original detailing to remain fully visible.

A dining table in dark wood, paired with brown leather chairs, creates a warm contrast to the soft yellow tones of the kitchen.
