Behind the red-framed windows of a brick house in Hagaström, just outside Gävle, a kitchen has taken shape where every detail has been carefully considered. By opening up the floor plan, maximising natural light and drawing inspiration from the home’s architecture, several bespoke solutions have been created. The result is a kitchen that has become a natural gathering place for both everyday life and special occasions.
Reworking the floor plan was one of the first decisions that shaped this kitchen. Originally, the room featured a U-shaped layout with space for a small dining table and four chairs. To create a more open and social environment, the homeowners chose to remove part of a wall connecting the kitchen to the adjoining room. At the same time, the neighbouring room was transformed into a dedicated dining room, allowing the kitchen to expand and breathe.
The changes not only created a greater sense of space but also brought an entirely new flow of natural light into the home. Today, the evening sun streams through the windows, filling the kitchen with a warm glow, particularly during the brighter months of the year.

Despite the airy feel, the planning process required several thoughtful solutions. One of the windows was positioned in a way that made standard-depth cabinetry impossible. The solution was to install shallower base cabinets along that wall, preserving both functionality and aesthetics. At the far end, an open tray cabinet was incorporated and carefully adapted to ensure it could be used without interfering with the windowsill. To create a balanced composition, a wine rack was added above, aligned with the cabinet below.

One of the kitchen’s most distinctive features can be found around the cooker. The inspiration came from the living room, where a wide archway connects the adjoining spaces. The same shape was echoed in the kitchen through a bespoke architectural feature linking the tall cabinets. The result is a soft, elegant detail that gives the kitchen a unique identity. Hidden behind the custom-built structure is an integrated extractor hood that blends seamlessly into the design. During the festive season, a wreath is often hung in the centre of the arch, adding an extra touch of Christmas charm.
Along one side of the kitchen, a built-in bench has quickly become a favourite place to gather. From here, the family can enjoy views of the garden while cooking, and in the evenings it becomes the perfect spot for conversation over a glass of wine.

The result is a kitchen where architecture, functionality and everyday life work together in perfect harmony. A room designed not only for cooking, but for bringing people together.
