Marta Vargas shaker kitchen in Aspudden

This is the second kitchen from Skandinaviska Shakerkök that Marta Vargas and her partner Graeme have purchased. In their previous apartment, in Midsommarkransen, they installed a Shaker kitchen, in the color “vintervit” (winter white).
When they got the keys to the new apartment in Aspudden, they chose to install another Shaker kitchen. This time in a light gray shade (S2002-Y).

The couple planned their kitchen with a clear division: the part with the stove is for tools, pots and pans.
The opposite wall is dedicated to food storage, creating a natural and smooth workflow.

When the family moved into their new apartment, there was one thing missing more than anything else – a homely kitchen. They noticed it immediately, and conversations returned to the same topic again and again. The existing kitchen was there, but without warmth, without charm, without soul. The room didn’t entice them to linger, cooking never felt as fun, and they almost just closed the door when they passed by.

The family’s daughter is happy to jump up and help.

The plate rack is the last thing to come into place in the kitchen, filling in a previously empty space.

Finally, the decision emerged: the kitchen had to be redone. And once it was finished, with new life and character, it turned out to be the best choice they ever made.

“Now the kitchen is the room where we spend the most time. Graeme is the family chef, so we made sure to create a little space where I can sit with a glass of wine and chat with him while he cooks.”

Dad and daughter enjoy baking together in the kitchen.
For those who want to be close to the person cooking, there is a small table by the window.

“We designed the kitchen completely according to our needs, and one of the most important things was to have plenty of work space.”

Another thing that was important to the couple when they renovated was that the kitchen would be inviting for their daughter as well. Inviting in a way that would allow her to join in baking, even having room to jump up and get a spot in the corner of the counter cabinets to participate, if she wanted to.

The small table in the kitchen is one of the family’s most used places.
On summer evenings, they like to sit with the windows wide open and listen to the birds in the large oak tree outside.
A crucial aspect of the kitchen design was that they did not want wall cabinets. They wanted the room to feel airy and free from unnecessary visual weight. Instead, just like in the previous kitchen, they installed shelves from Norrgavel where they store the most used items such as ceramics, glass and other everyday favorites.

– Our kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where we spend the most time, dancing, eating breakfast and playing while someone cooks. Renovating it was the best decision we could have made, and choosing the Scandinavian Shaker kitchen was a no-brainer. It’s the coziest place in the whole apartment.

The coffee corner was a happy mistake. Marta spontaneously added the built-in shelves while the craftsmen installed the cabinets.
It turned out to be a perfect place for our most used cups, ready for a cup of coffee from the espresso machine.
